Membership

Membership

Joining the Unitarian Universalist Church of Augusta (UUCA) is simple. There’s no dogmatic litmus test. However, in taking this step you are making a commitment to join your talents, resources, and energy in pursuit of our mission and in sacred covenant with other humans and the interdependent web of which we are a part.

If you would like to join our congregation our Membership Committee will help you get acquainted. There is no formal conversion process, so becoming a member of our congregation is simply a matter of self-identification and a promise to responsibly steep your actions in love  - and to come back into covenant whenever necessary.

First Steps

When you visit our Sunday service, we encourage you to fill out a blue visitor card so we can send you materials by mail or email. (We won’t give others your address. Ever. We won't put you on our newsletter mailing list unless requested.)

You can attend UUCA worship services or any other activities as a visitor as long as you want.  All of who you are is always welcome. If you would like to join the church, please contact the minister or any member of our Membership Committee.  They can advise you about the next opportunity to learn more about our faith tradition; and to ask questions and learn more about what UUCA membership means. These formative conversations take place frequently.

Once you sign the membership book you’ll be formally welcomed at a Sunday service in a New Member Ceremony.  Membership is important in UU congregations because our polity is based upon democracy and autonomy, so our congregations are empowered to call their own ministers, approve their own annual budget, etc.

If you choose to join our church, we’ll schedule a Sunday service at which you’ll be formally welcomed.
