Congregational Life

Congregational Life

Whoever you are, whomever you love, wherever you are on your life journey, all of who you are is welcome at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Augusta. All of who you are is celebrated. All of who you are is sacred.

We are an inclusive community with a loving, faith-full commitment to helping each other deepen spiritually while working for justice within our congregation and in the wider community.

This section of our website will help you learn more about us.  We hope you will find our congregation to be friendly and welcoming as well as spiritually fulfilling.

Our church family seeks to foster friendship and closeness among the people of the church and its larger community. Realizing that community connections are what make life meaningful, we celebrate each individual’s participation in the church community in the spirit of interdependence. We invite you to experience all that UUCA has to offer.

Rites of Passage

We assist members and friends in marking major life transitions with rites of passage. Child dedications welcome little ones into the life of the congregation; bridging ceremonies for graduating high school seniors symbolize the transition from youth to young adult; our minister works with couples in commitment or wedding ceremonies; memorial services are occasions of celebration of life. If you would like more information about holding a rite of passage at our church or another location, please contact the minister.

Children and Youth Faith Formation

The Unitarian Universalist Church of Augusta helps parents and caregivers love children into being kind, respectful, centered, caring, and strong enough to side with love and fight for justice. UUCA faith formation, and participation in worship, social justice work, and multigenerational gatherings reinforce what parents teach at home. We champion relationship, curiosity, spirituality, and progressive moral values which will continue to shape and support our children as they grow.

Children’s programming usually occurs on Sunday mornings. We have a nursery for babies and toddlers during worship if needed, and offer age-specific programs from preschool on up. Our faith formation programs combine story, song, art, movement, discussion, and play to engage children with many learning styles, abilities, and activity levels.

Adult Faith Formation

At UUCA, our Adult Faith Formation programs make a difference in the lives of those in our community by facilitating fellowship, sparking spiritual and religious growth, and contemplating care-fully with compassionate curiosity.

Adult Faith Formation is at the heart of lifelong transformation toward and realization of personal and relational wholeness.

Using Angus MacLean's idea of "the method is the message," we creatively practice living with love and integrity.  We explore deep questions about ourselves and the interdependent web of existence.  Sometimes we'll frame our time with excellent curricula from the UUA or the Fahs Collaborative at Meadville Lombard Theological School.  And we try to nurture a consistent culture of play (which isn't just for the young).

Faith Formation helps us live more fully into our mission, values, and covenant.

And the subject is always love.
