Congregational Life

Whoever you are, whomever you love, wherever you are on your life journey, you are welcome at Unitarian Universalist Church of Augusta. We are an inclusive community with a commitment to helping each other to grow spiritually while working for justice within our congregation and in the wider community.

This section of our website will help you learn more about the programs we offer to enrich the lives of all who enter our doors. We hope you will find our congregation to be friendly and welcoming as well as spiritually fulfilling.

Our church family seeks to foster friendship and closeness among the people of the church and its larger community. Realizing that connections between people are what make life meaningful, we seek to enrich each individual’s participation in the church community. We invite you to experience the programs UUCA has to offer.

Rites of Passage

We assist members and friends in marking major life transitions with rites of passage. Child dedications welcome little ones into the life of the congregation; bridging ceremonies for graduating high school seniors symbolize the transition from youth to young adult; our minister works with couples in commitment or wedding ceremonies; memorial services are occasions of celebration of life. If you would like more information about holding a rite of passage at our church or another location, please contact the minister.

Children and Youth Religious Education

Parents and caregivers come to Unitarian Universalist Church of Augusta for communities that help raise children to become kind, respectful, fair-minded, caring, and strong enough to side with love and fight for justice. UUCA religious education and participation in worship, social justice work and multigenerational gatherings reinforce what parents teach at home. We nurture truth-seeking, spirituality, and progressive moral values that will continue to shape and support our children as they grow.

Children’s programming usually occurs on Sunday mornings. We have a nursery for babies and toddlers during worship and offer age-specific programs from preschool on up. Our religious education programs combine story, song, art, movement, discussion and play to engage children with many learning styles, abilities, and activity levels.

Adult Faith Development

At UUCA, our Adult Faith Development mission is to make a difference in the spiritual lives of those in our community by providing opportunities for fellowship, spiritual and religious growth. We strive to offer adult faith programming in four key theme areas: spirituality, religious history, UU values and hard questions/ethics.

Adult Faith Development classes contribute directly to the heart of the lifelong learning mission at Unitarian Universalist Church of Augusta by offering energizing, enriching and diverse class options for adult learners.

Our Adult Faith Development options provide an additional opportunity to connect with our members and friends through intellectual stimulation, acquisition of new skills, spiritual growth and fun. Classes might include presentations, films, discussions revolving around a current topic or book but all classes provide an opportunity for an exchange of diverse opinions and thus inherently strengthen our commitment to our second and third principles as we build personal connections.
